Matthew, one of Jesus' 12 disciples, writes his Gospel with a Jewish audience primarily in mind.  His purpose is to demonstrate that Jesus Christ is the King and Messiah of Israel, and that Jesus is the fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy.
